I had the third gastroscopy a few days ago, the worst one – sometimes is better to know nothing what will happen soon… Anyway, with the empty stomach before the examination, dreaming about food and beverages, I came up with an idea for my next note: a food journey across my trips.
As far as I remember I always had the attitude that I live to eat, not eat to live, so tasting food is one of the most important thing in my life. I still can feel the smell, taste and my emotions towards some dishes. Therefore, let’s mention them.

Israel: Having Israeli friends let me know their cuisine better than other tourists. I celebrated Chanukah with thousand types of doughnuts, tasted falafel from a street kiosk, kebab from Moroccan cheap restaurant and bourekas in the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv, and fell in love with a fresh avocado just from the garden, smeared like a butter on the sandwich which I ate sitting on city walls in Jerusalem. I was also mad about flavoured water. There I found out that one of my favourite fruit was... lychee. But first of all, I learnt how to prepare Israeli salad with cucumber, onion, tomato and lots of parsley and after coming back home I also baked Hamantaschen cookies and searched for a good recipe of hummus.
Italy: Thinking about this country I can’t forget about a sandwich with prosciutto and a tasty coffee or still warm croissant and a juice from fresh oranges for a breakfast, then pistachio ice-creams in a small family confectionery somewhere in Milan, close to the Basilica of St. Lorenzo and pizzas: carbonare, frutti di mare, pepperoni. Ahhh, the Italian cuisine is my favourite one, even it is making my hips bigger and bigger! And to me is the simplest to prepare, so today I have had pasta with mascarpone cheese. But let’s go to another destination…
Sri Lanka: Take dahl, chilli, onion and rice and there is a base for the rice and curry what I call in the different way: rice and 1000 bowls of something mixed with chilli. I also ate kottu, a shrimp soup, a shrimp curry, string hoppers, but what I loved eating the most was vadas – small fried cookies/snacks with dahl, onion and of course, chilli and Elephant Ginger Beer with no alcohol. After coming back home I bought a coconut milk to prepare kiri bath, in different words – sweet milk rice (but I have not tried, yet) and some mangos to make them with chilli – I got used to Sri Lankan spicy cuisine quite quickly. But frankly speaking, I am not a fan of betel, even if it was funny to try it, spiting red and having dark teeth afterwards.
In Lithuania for a breakfast or as a snack I loved eating a cottage cream cheese (sūrelis) coved by chocolate. After a student trip to the Netherlands I could not forget about Belgian fries with mayo, so I am happy this snack came to Poland and I can buy it easily in Warsaw. However, I would love to try Chinese food just from street sellers or sushi in Tokyo. Anyway, are you hungry?
